Tidy Districts Awards 2025
We are delighted to announce that the dlr County Council launched the Tidy Districts Awards for 2025. Whether you’re a small or large group we encourage you to apply and showcase your efforts in improving your local area. You can submit online applications through the dlr Online Portal. or download application forms at this link.
Completed application forms should be returned or submitted by 5pm, Thursday 10th July, 2025. Judging will take place during July and August as unannounced visits from the competition judges. Consultations
1. Public Consultation: Proposed Playground Upgrades at Carysfort Park, Blackrock and Pearse Park, Sallynoggin – deadline Friday June 20th 2025.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is upgrading the existing playgrounds and exercise equipment at both Pearse Park, Sallynoggin and Carysfort Park, Blackrock and need your help creating a new, inclusive play space, where children of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can play. 2. Stillorgan Village Urban Framework Plan – deadline 18th June 2025
dlr are seeking views from the public to help inform the Stillorgan Village Urban Framework Plan scheme design. A non-statutory public consultation is being held on the scheme from 21 May 2025 to 18 June 2025. Further details and a link to the online consultation are available here.
3. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is proposing to develop the “DLR Connector”, a walking, cycling and public realm improvement scheme. Read more HERE. A non-statutory public consultation is being held on the scheme from 3rd June to 15th July 2025. You can join us at one of our Drop-In events. Call in at any time that suits you between 4-8pm to talk to our project team and view the project designs.

Events
1. Coastival 2025 – 5th to the 13th of July
Sync your summer to the rhythm of the sea at Coastival bringing art, history, games, culture, sailing, family fun, music and more to Dún Laoghaire from 5-13 July. Soak up Atmosphere with balloons, kites and flight; marvel at the skill of the sailors in the Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta Ireland’s largest sailing event or meet the heroes and explore their fleets up close at the family favourite Emergency Services Open Day event. 2. Brain Health Tours in the Gallery Saturday 14 June, 11am-12.30pm, Gallery, Level 3, dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire
Enjoy a seated, informal tour of ‘A rock can hurt you, a rock can open a nut’ by Vanessa Donoso López. As part of the experience enjoy a cup of tea and a chance to chat and meet new people.These tours are designed for anyone who is interested in promoting their brain health, anyone who notices changes in their memory and anyone living with dementia. Artists trained to support people living with dementia will facilitate these sessions to ensure an inclusive experience. 3. Refugee Week Ireland – 16th to the 22nd June 2025
The Refugee Week Ireland is taking place between the 16th and the 22nd of June 2025. You can find a list of events taking place nationwide at this link.
- Part of of the Refugee Week, Women4Women DLR will hold a Multicultural Women’s Breakfast on June 19th, from 10am to 1pm in A94 XV02 32 Belgrave Square South, Monkstown, Co.Dublin, Ireland. Join us for a morning of storytelling by women who came through a refugee background. We’ll have meaningful conversations and delicious international food, brought by you! More information here.
- Join us for a free screening of ‘Io Capitano’ on June 20th, from 6.30pm to 9pm in the Lexicon Library. Matteo Garrone’s new film is part adventure story, part slavery drama; the slavery which did not in fact vanish with the end of the American civil war, but thrives in the globalised present day without needing to shapeshift too much, driven by the age-old forces of geopolitics and the market. - Cultural competence training – AkiDwA – 25th June 2025, Dun Laoghaire County Hall. Cultural Competence involves training service providers working with people from different cultural and racial backgrounds on how to be able to navigate issues which these cohort of service users may present. 2. Free compost giveaway to celebrate National Food Waste Recycling 2025 ! – Ballyogan Recycling Centre June 5th, 11am to 2pm
Recycling your food waste reduces waste to landfill and produces valuable compost and fertiliser for our green spaces. To celebrate National Food Waste Recycling Week (June 1st to 7th 2025), and in collaboration with Thorntons Recycling, we are giving away free bags of compost, rolls of compost caddy liners and handy food waste guides! Join us in Ballyogan Recycling Centre on June 5th 11am to 2pm to collect your pack and learn more about where food waste ends up.
3. National Age Friendly recognition and achievement awards 2025 – closing date for nominations is 30th May 2025
Each year a local authority hosts the awards event, and we are excited to reveal that Galway City Council and Galway County Council are jointly hosting this year’s event in The Galmont Hotel, Galway, on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025. Again this year we have eight categories of awards, aligning to the WHO themes: Transport; Active & Healthy Ageing; Business Innovation; Safety & Security; Communications; Environment; Community Innovation; Housing. This week, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council proudly unveiled its Local Sports & Physical Activity Plan 2025–2029 at Kilbogget Park, Cabinteely. This launch signifies a significant advancement in dlr’s ongoing dedication to promoting sport and physical activity throughout the county. We were delighted to attend the launch and wish to acknowledge the work and commitment of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership, dlr Leisure and all of those involved in the design of the Plan.
6. dlr Cruinniú na nÓg 2025 – 7th of June 2025, with events all over the county
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown (dlr) County Council is thrilled to announce Cruinniú na nÓg across dlr on Saturday 7 June. Cruinniú na nÓg is the national day of free creativity for children and young people. It aims to celebrate and encourage children and young people’s (aged 0 – 18) participation in culture and creativity by doing, making, and creating. This year we will be celebrating the opening of our new library in Ballyogan with a mini festival including workshops and performances by young musicians and dancers, a silent disco in Myrtle Square presenting some local young DJ talent, and spoken word, theatre, dance and art workshops and performances by and for young people across the county. 9. Policing Priorities 2026-2028 – deadline 8th of June 2025
The Policing and Community Safety Authority has launched a Public Consultation on Policing Priorities for the Garda Síochána for 2026-2028. This user-friendly online tool allows you to spend ‘points’ on the areas of policing that you consider are most important. It will take about 10 minutes to complete, and there is a short, optional survey at the end. The consultation runs until 08 June 2025 and is open to anyone over the age of 16. 1. Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) survey – Deadline 16th of May 2025
Have you heard of the LCDC before? It is a very important committee within the local authority that oversees the delivery of programmes that are vital for the wellbeing of the local community. The Department of Rural and Community Development seeks to enhance the awareness and understanding of the work of LCDCs by developing a communications campaign to run later this year, and would like to hear from PPN members and other stakeholders by way of a short survey. The survey should take only a few minutes to complete, and we appreciate your time in providing thoughtful responses. To access the survey, please click HERE.

6. Congolese Anti-Poverty Network & Filipino Multicultural Society Celebrate Africa Day – Tuesday, 20th May 2025 18:00 – 20:00pm, LexIcon Library and Cultural Centre
Our Africa Day 2025 event will be a unique and meaningful celebration that brings together diverse communities to honour history, showcase culture, and foster connections between Africa and the wider world. This year, we will commemorate the contributions of Irish Veterans UN Peacekeeping Mission in the Congo (1961) while celebrating the cross-cultural connection between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Philippines. Through storytelling, fashion, music, and history, we aim to create an experience that resonates long after the event ends. Register HERE for this free event.
7. Multicultural Women’s Breakfast – Thursday 22nd of May at 10am
Join the women4women Network and SSP Women’s Programme and bring your friends along and food to share if possible. It will be a morning of connection, celebration, and empowerment at The Studio in the LexIcon Library DLR. This event is a wonderful opportunity to learn about different cultures and to discover commonalities. 8. Powerscourt Estate – “Working with Nature Awards” – deadline Tuesday 3rd of June 2024
Celebrating people all over Ireland who are working to protect and restore nature. The “Working with Nature Awards” aims to honour and recognise nature protectors all over Ireland who are having impact across four (4) selected award categories including Pollinators, Biodiversity & Rewilding, Nature Media and Nature Education & Wellbeing. Hi Digital Fund – applications sought from projects and organisations that innovatively work?to empower Ireland’s older adults to enhance?their digital literacy, as well as improve social inclusion and quality of life through the use of?technology, to ensure that no one is left behind as we transition to a more digital society. 2. Balancing Stress Programme – HSE – The HSE are delighted to invite you to the official webinar launch of the HSE Balancing Stress Programme, which will be launched by Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD, Minister of State for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy on Friday 2nd May at 10.15am – 11.30am. 3. Are You Registered To Vote? – There will be a Presidential Election later this year, are you registered to vote? dlr are encouraging all our electors to update their details or first-time voters to register to vote on National Voter Registration Day 30th April. Read more here
4. Community Safety Fund is Now Open – The annual fund allows for the proceeds of crime, seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) and An Garda Síochána, to be directed into local projects to support and enhance community safety. This year, €4 million is available, which is double the original allocation of €2 million when the fund first opened for applications in 2022, and grants range from €20,000 to €150,000. 5. Join the Circular Movement Sustainability Workshops – DLR PPN member Royal Terrace Residents’ Association secured funding under the Climate Actions Work Engagement fund to deliver sustainability awareness workshops in 2025. The project involves the delivery of three two-hour workshops over the course of the year on the following topics: sustainable fashion, including a waste not clothes swap; sustainable food workshop focusing on food waste; and a zero waste workshop focusing on reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products. 1. Shankill & Ballybrack Community First Responders – Upcoming Public Training Event – April 10, 2025
For those looking to enhance their life-saving skills, our next public training event will take place on April 10, 2025, at 7:00 PM at St. Anne’s Resource Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity for community members to learn vital CPR and first aid skills under the guidance of our experienced trainers.

2. Don’t miss Dalkey Players next production! Following the success of John B Keane’s ‘Sharon’s Grave’, Dalkey Players are very excited to bring an original play by Conall Ó Beoláin, ‘On the Lower Bridge’, directed by Mallory Adams, Simon Cunningham and Ber O’ Hara. ‘On the Lower Bridge’ features a day in the life of an Irish town in 2024. Nine stories combine to form an insightful, humorous and emotional portrait of present day Ireland. Running 26th March to 29th March inclusive in the Dalkey Town Hall at 8pm. Tickets available here
3. St. Patrick’s Day Parade DLR
The parade will last for approximately one and a half hours from 11am – 12.30pm. The parade route will be along the coast road beginning at Islington Avenue, proceeding along Queen’s Road, and will end at the Marine Road junction into the Harbour, with parade participants dispersing into the Harbour area. Wednesdays 11.30am – 1.30pm (6 consecutive weeks) in the Lis Na Carrig & Aventine Gardens, Brighton Road, Foxrock, D18 X7P4. To book: [email protected]Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council’s Climate Action Team in collaboration with Foxrock Area Community & Enterprise CLG (FACE) have organised a free six week, six step climate action course for the over 55’s, beginning this month, March 2025. The course supports dlr’s commitment in the dlr Climate Action Plan 2024 -2029 to work in partnership with local communities in climate related programmes. The unique programme is provided by Jacinta Barrins. Jacinta is a retired United Nations Diplomat, where her work focused on the environment and climate. The first three steps of the course focus on understanding climate change, how it occurs, the challenges of changing behaviour and how to measure our carbon footprint. The second three steps focus on supporting participants in implementing ONE action based on their carbon footprint results. At step four, the participants identify ONE action they would like to work on. The gap between the fifth and sixth sessions allows participants to work with their action!
The course, which is free, is open to all persons over fifty-five years of age, as well as individuals or groups who want to learn about climate change in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Places are limited and booking is essential. - EVENTS and PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITIES
1. Dun Laoghaire Jam Hub with Music Generation DLR (age 14-17) – Musicians, Bands, DJs, Rappers and more
This interactive, inclusive music program is designed to provide a space for young musicians from 14-17 years old to come together, write, rehearse and record with the guidance of Music Generation DLR’s experienced musician educators. Young musicians of all abilities are welcome to the Beat Cafe, Dun Laoghaire from 10am to 12pm every Saturday starting on March 29th. To register, please email: [email protected]2. Free Tours of the Impressive LÉ William Butler Yeats!
On Monday 17 March, St Patrick’s Day, the LÉ William Butler Yeats will be open to the public at Dún Laoghaire Harbour from 1pm until 4pm. Tours are free of charge, no booking required and last approximately 20 minutes. The 90m Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) will be docked at Carlisle Pier, Dún Laoghaire Harbour, This is a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the ship, learn about its capabilities, and gain insight into its role in defending Ireland’s interests at sea. 1. Traffic: Schools & Sports Clubs Cycle Parking – Closes 14 March 2025
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council invites schools and sport clubs to apply for cycle parking stands. These will be delivered to the school or sports club grounds by the Council.
2. Ashlawn Park Public Consultation – Closes 19 March 2025
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is in the process of developing a public realm design for the cul-de-sac on which you reside. The project will involve the construction of new footpaths, planting of new trees, and roadway resurfacing. The completed project will result in a safer, greener and more modern layout from which the community can benefit.
3. Draft Kiltiernan-Glenamuck Local Area Plan – Closes 21 March 2025
The Draft Kiltiernan – Glenamuck Local Area Plan (LAP) sets out the policies and objectives to guide future development in Kiltiernan – Glenamuck.

5. Planning: Residential Zoned Land Tax Draft Map 2025 (Rezoning) – Closes 1 April 2025
The Government’s Housing For All – A New Housing Plan for Ireland proposed a new tax to activate vacant land for residential purposes as a part of the Pathway to Increasing New Housing Supply. The Residential Zoned Land Tax was introduced in the Finance Act 2021. The process to identify land to which the tax applies is now underway and the tax will be payable from 2025. T

In accordance with Part 8, Article 81 of the Planning and Development Regulations, 2001 (as amended), Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council hereby gives notice of a proposal to be carried out for Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council by way of an Agreement with Winterbrook (“the developer”). The Public are invited to make submissions in relation to a new housing development proposal in the Leopardstown Road area.
7. Draft Old Connaught Local Area Plan – Closes 17 April 2025
The Draft Old Connaught Local Area Plan (LAP) sets out the policies and objectives to guide future development in Old Connaught. 8. Planning: Taking in Charge at Section of Footpath at the Entrance of One Springfield Park, Foxrock, Dublin 18 – Closes 21 April 2025
In accordance with the provisions of Section 180 of the Planning & Development Act, 2000 to initiate the procedures of Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 (as amended), Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to consider the making of a declaration for a section of footpath at the entrance of One Springfield Park, Foxrock, Dublin 18 to be made public.
9. Parks: Proposed Development St. Michael’s Church Square & Environs – Closes 25 April 2025
Proposed Development at St Michael’s Square & Environs PC-PKS-01-25. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is proposing to develop St. Michael’s Square and Environs on the junction of Marine Road and George’s Street. The Proposal includes for level access off George’s Street into a seating/ congregation space at the upper level. The placemaking project is to improve the general appearance of the locality and to assist in the regeneration of Dún Laoghaire Town.
10. Carrickmines Shanganagh Flood Relief Scheme
dlr are delighted to announce the submission of the Carrickmines Shanganagh Flood Relief Scheme for planning permission. The scheme is for the construction of defences to protect properties against flooding at key locations along the Carrickmines and Shanganagh rivers. The scheme has been submitted to An Bord Pleanála. The plans are available to view on An Bord Pleanála’s website. Public consultation runs from 27 Feb 2025 to 15 April 2025 for anyone who wishes to comment.

2. Consultation on Ireland’s implementation of the Aarhus Convention and the Pollutant Release Transfer Register
The Department of Climate, Environment, Energy have just launched the public consultation on Ireland’s implementation of the Aarhus Convention and the Pollutant Release Transfer Register (PRTR) Protocol available here. 3. Grants to help turn vacant traditional houses into new homes – Applications must be made by the deadline of 2 May 2025
Grants of up to €5,000 available to cover expert conservation advice. Scheme aimed at those availing or considering the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant. Part of the Historic Structures Fund , this scheme will cover up to 67% of the costs (subject to a maximum grant of €5,000) of having a conservation expert with appropriate expertise visit a traditional building, conduct a survey, and compile tailored conservation advice. This includes a report outlining the condition of the building and identifying repairs and improvements that would restore it to use while enhancing its character, energy efficiency, integrity, and amenity.
