Deansgrange Stream Flood Relief Scheme – Public Consultation

The Deansgrange catchment, the land that drains to the Deansgrange Stream, is a relatively long and narrow area, stretching from Deansgrange in the north-west to Loughlinstown in the south-east.

There have been a number of recent instances of flooding in the Deansgrange catchment, including at Glenavon Park which flooded in August 2018. Different areas of the lower catchment, including Seafield Court, Killiney Hill Road and Achill Road, suffer from regular flooding. The Eastern CFRAM Study Area concluded that a flood relief scheme would be viable and effective for the community.

Improvements to the flood defence regime are required to mitigate the impact from high flows and flooding in the Deansgrange catchment. With this in mind, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, along with project partners the OPW, have appointed JB Barry Consulting Engineers and JBA Consulting to review and develop the Eastern CFRAM study and design an appropriate viable, cost-effective and sustainable flood relief scheme which aims to minimise risk to human beings, the existing community, social amenity, environment and landscape character.

From Oct 5 2020 the Council will be undertaking a public engagement on the project and we would like to hear from everybody, but especially people in the impacted areas. This will be first of several engagement processes during the project and its aim at this stage is to make residents aware of the project , seek their experiences and records (photos, recollections, etc) of past flood events and any concerns or suggestions they may have about the stream or the project in general.
